First Computer developed in India

The first computer in India was at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). It was named as TIFRAC (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Automatic Calculator) by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. On 21st January 1969, the first electronic digital computer built in India was commissioned at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) by Vikram Sarabhai.

PARAM Padma was the first Indian machine ranked on a worldwide supercomputer list. 4608 cores, Intel 73XX – 2.9 GHz, 25 to 200 TB, PARAMnet 3. Created in three months at a cost of ₹160 million (US$2 million) – first Indian supercomputer to achieve more than 500 teraflops.

First Privately made rocket in India

Vikram-S : This was India’s first privately made rocket. The 6-metre tall launch vehicle Vikram-S is named after Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the country’s space programme, and lifted off at 11.30 a.m, November 18th, 2022 from Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) launchpad in Sriharikota.

Developed by Hyderabad-based startup Skyroot Aerospace Private Limited, the 6-metre tall vehicle hit a peak altitude of 89.5 kilometers and then splashed into the Bay of Bengal about five minutes after the launch. This mission was titled Prarambh.

First Satellite of India

Aryabhata was India’s first satellite, named after the famous Indian astronomer. It was launched on 19 April 1975 from Kapustin Yar, a Soviet rocket launch and development site in Astrakhan Oblast using a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle. It was built by ISRO, and launched by the Soviet union as a part of the Soviet Interkosmos programme which provided access to space for friendly states.

Aryabhata weighed 794 pounds (360 kg) and was instrumented to explore conditions in Earth’s ionosphere, measure neutrons and gamma rays from the Sun, and perform investigations in X-ray astronomy.

First President of India

Dr. Rajendra Prasad (3 December 1884 – 28 February 1963) was an Indian politician, lawyer, Indian independence activist, journalist & scholar who served as the first President of India from 1950 to 1962.

Upon independence in 1947, Prasad was elected as President of the Constituent Assembly of India, which prepared the Constitution of India and served as its provisional Parliament.

When India became a republic in 1950, Prasad was elected as its first president by the Constituent Assembly. As president, Prasad established a tradition for non – partisanship and independence for the office-bearer and retired from Congress party politics. Although a ceremonial head of state, Prasad encouraged the development of education in India and advised the Nehru government on several occasions. In 1957, Prasad was re-elected to the presidency, becoming the only president to serve two full terms. Prasad stayed in office for the longest term of around 12 years.

First Prime minister of India

The longest-serving prime minister was Jawaharlal Nehru, also the first prime minister, whose tenure lasted 16 years and 286 days. His premiership was followed by Lal Bahadur Shastri’s short tenure and Indira Gandhi’s 11- and 4-year-long tenures, both politicians belonging to the Indian National Congress.

First Woman President of India

Smt. Pratibha Patil is India’s first woman President . Patil won the election held on 19 July 2007. She garnered nearly two-thirds of the votes and took oath on 25 July 2007, as India’s 12th president but 1st woman President.

Prathibha Devisingh Patil (born 19 December 1934) is an Indian politician and lawyer who served as the 12th president of India spanning from 2007 to 2012. She is the first woman to become the president of India. A member of the Indian National Congress, she previously served as the Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007, and was a member of Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996.

First Woman Prime minister of India

Smt. Indira Gandhi. She served as Prime Minister for three consecutive terms (1966–77) and a fourth term from 1980 until she was assassinated in 1984.

First Woman IPS officer of India

Kiran Bedi. In 1972, Kiran Bedi was the first woman in India to join the officer ranks of the Indian Police Service (IPS) — a first of many firsts in her career. From running non-profit organisations (NGOs) to heading police units, and crushing opponents on the tennis court, Kiran Bedi aces it all. Shortly after joining the IPS, Bedi won the President’s Police Medal in 1979. The reforms she introduced in the prison sector as Inspector General in Delhi won her the Ramson Magsaysay award in 1994.

Inspiring generations of women, Kiran Bedi became the first Indian and first woman appointed as the United Nations Police Adviser and head of the Police Division in 2003.

First Male IPS Officer of India

C.V. Narasimhan was the First IPS Officer of India. He was the topper of the first IPS batch in 1948. He won the President’s Revolver Prize at the National Police Academy for being the “best cadet.” In 1948, he topped the first national competitive examination in the IPS category.

The First Indian to receive the Nobel Prize was poet Rabindranath Tagore. He was felicitated with the Nobel Prize in 1913 for Literature to recognize his excellent work in Geetanjali. Rabindranath Tagore also composed national anthems for India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Tagore was also known as ‘Gurudev’.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, star shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won the silver medal in Men’s double trap shooting. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Abhinav Bindra won gold in the Men’s 10 metre air rifle event becoming the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games. Abhinav Bindra became the first Indian to win an individual Olympics gold medal when he won the gold in the 10-metre Air rifle event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
