National Cinema Day 2023
National Cinema Day 2023 will be observed across India on 13th October’23, Friday. This day is celebrated to commemorate the reopening of cinema halls after the COVID lockdown. This is also a day for cinema operators and moviemakers to appreciate their audience, which includes cinema enthusiasts, and financial contributors to moviemakers. The event is organized by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI). The MAI Thursday said the special screening Day in 2023 will be celebrated across India on October 13 this year and the movie enthusiasts will be able to watch films at an affordable price as tickets will be available as low as ₹99, excluding recliner and premium formats.
The tickets for the National Cinema Day 2023 can be booked online via BookMyShow, PayTM and official cinema chain websites.
Over 4,000 screens at multiplexes from India, including PVR INOX, Cinepolis, Miraj, and Delite have teamed up to participate in the celebrations.
In an open letter Multiplex Association of India said, “This special occasion brings audiences of all ages together for a day of cinematic bliss, celebrating the incredible success of multiple films at the box office this year,”
National Cinema Day History
As we all know that cinema halls, multiplexes were closed due to Covid 19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. The movie industry lost the crowd and remained in loss. Cinema lovers almost switched to OTT platforms. Post Covid 19 when the restrictions were withdrawn, in the year 2022, first time the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) started celebrating National Cinema Day to attract more crowd.
In 2022, for the first time the MAI planned to celebrate this day on 16th September but postponed to 23rd September and the 1st National Cinema Day was observed on 23rd September’22.
On National Cinema Day, 2022, movie tickets were offered at a price of ₹75. This is to show cinema enthusiasts that they are appreciated. Around 6.5 million people availed of the National Cinema Day offer in 2022. This day is a great occasion to go out for a movie with your friends and family.
Last year, over 6.5 million people went to the theatres on this day, which was celebrated on September 23 to commemorate the successful reopening of movie halls.
Multiplex Association of India (MAI):
- The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) was established in 2022 under the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
- The MAI is a group of cinema operators who manage and promote the cinema and highlights the concerns of cinema operators. It operates more than 500 multiplexes in India.
- The MAI started this Day to draw attention to the need to keep supporting the cinema industry.
Multiplex Association of India is an association of multiplex operators in India, formed under the aegis of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry i.e. FICCI. It is the only national body of multiplex cinema operators, representing around 18 national and regional multiplex chains, with more than 500 operational multiplexes and around 1800 screens across the country. Its members operate around 75% of the multiplex screens in the country.
