Jailer Movie: Jailer movie is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language action film which is written and directed by Nelson. Jailer is produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures. It stars Rajinikanth popularly known as Superstar Rajini and Thalaivar, in the title role. other star casts include Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Sunil, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Mirnaa Menon, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Vasanth Ravi.

Muthuvel Pandian, played by Tamil Superstar Rajnikanth, is a jailer who is strict and finds out that a leader of a dangerous gang is in the jail and the gang is trying to rescue the leader, Veerappan, played by Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal. Muthuvel tries to stop this rescue operation but fails. The gang tries to get their leader, Veerappan, back from jail at any cost. Muthuvel uses all his skills to stop Veerappan from rescuing and protect other jail inmates from Veerappan’s anger.
The film was shot for a whopping budget of approximately Rs 200 Crore. The film is set to air on Sun TV during the Diwali festival. The film was shot extensively in Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad in India.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer opened with phenomenal numbers in all territories in Tamil Nadu and overseas. Even in Telugu states, the shows were housefulls in a majority of centres which is a sign of a bumper opening. The initial title of the Jailer movie was Thalaivar 169 when it was announced in February 2022. It is the 169th film of Superstar Rajini. The official title “Jailer” was announced on 17th June’23. The film was released world wide on 10th August’2023 alongside Sunny Deol starrer “GADAR 2” and Akshaya Kumar starrer “OMG 2”. The duration of the film is 168 minutes. A Japanese couple has travelled from Osaka to Chennai, Tamil Nadu to watch Rajinikanth’s film Jailer. Yasuda Hidetoshi, Rajinikanth fan club leader from Japan told PTI, “To see the Jailer movie, we have come from Japan to Chennai.”
The movie is suspected to make a gross of Rs 60 crore at the box office on day 1 of its release. The film has hit a mammoth 900 theatres across Tamil Nadu.
Jailer has already achieved an impressive pre-booking total of Rs 14.18 crore in India, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. The Tamil version of the film has generated Rs 12.82 crore in revenue from the sale of 5,91,221 tickets, while its Telugu variant accumulated Rs 1.35 crore in advance bookings through the sale of 77,554 tickets, taking the grand total of tickets that flew off the shelf to 6,68,775. A few days ago, the Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors’ Association had sent a note to all theatres in the state, urging them to release the film in all cinema halls.
Meanwhile, the excitement surrounding the movie reached an all-time high when offices in Chennai and Bengaluru, according to Economic Times, announced a holiday for its employees on Jailer’s release day, August 10. “Other actors release their movies during Holidays. Rajinikanth releases a movie and it becomes a holiday,” Joy, a netizen rightly noted while sharing this news.
A company said in its notice that it declared a holiday on August 10 ‘to avoid piled up leave requests to the HR department’. The notice further said, “We also take the privilege of going the extra mile to support antipiracy by providing free tickets to employees.

As per an HT report, the theatrical rights of Jailer were sold together for ₹123 crore. Out of which ₹60 crore came from Tamil Nadu. In Karnataka, ₹10 crore, in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ₹12 crore, and in Kerala ₹5.5 crore. The rest of India got another ₹4 crore.
As per a report on Sacnilk.com, the film has earned ₹12.8 crore in India through advance bookings. Around ₹11.7 crore was collected from the Tamil version of the film and ₹1.1 crore through the Telugu version. In the US, as per trade analyst Manobala Vijayan, Jailer has sold 37,000 tickets and collected $ 802,628 ( ₹6.64 crore). It’s likely to cross $1 million in advance ticket sales.
According to social media buzz, Rajinikanth has taken a remuneration of ₹110 crore for this movie. It is reported that Mohanlal, who will appear in a key role, has taken ₹8 crore. Kannada star Shivraj Kumar also played a pivotal role in the film. Information is doing the rounds that the makers have given him a remuneration of ₹4 crore. Jackie Shroff got ₹4 crore, Tamannaah Bhatia ₹3 crore, Yogi Babu ₹1 crore, Ramya Krishnan ₹80 lakh and Vasant Ravi got ₹30 lakh.

As per media reports, on its sixth day of release, “Jailer” earned an estimated net collection of ₹33.00 crore in India across all languages. The movie achieved a notable 81.59% occupancy rate for its Tamil version on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala’s tweet, the latest movie “Jailer” has surpassed the previous record held by Mani Ratnam’s “Ponniyin Selvan II.” Ramesh Bala tweeted on Tuesday morning, confirming that, “Jailer has crossed PS2 to become 2023 ‘s No.1 Kollywood Grosser at the WW Box office.”

The Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer, which was released in theatres on Thursday, 10th August’23, has become the biggest Tamil opener of the year. The film grossed Rs 52 crore in India on its opening day, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Nett collections for the film stood at Rs 44.5 crore. Jailer has now claimed the title of the biggest Tamil opener of the year. This position was previously held by Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2, which grossed Rs 32 crore in India on day one.
Jailer enjoyed a 78.62% occupancy throughout the day. Of of the film’s Rs 52 crore gross collection, Tamil Nadu accounted for Rs 23 crore, Karnataka delivered Rs 11 crore, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana brought in Rs 10 crore, and Kerala brought in Rs 5 crore.
The film is also enjoying a great run in the overseas market. As per trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the film has already made over $1.45 million in the US, which is more than Vijay’s Varisu, which collected $1.14 million during its entire run in the US market.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer is showing no signs to slow down at the box office as it eyes the Rs 300 crore mark with its worldwide gross. The film is expected to enter the club with its performance over Independence Day.

On Day 4, the film collected over Rs 222 crore at the worldwide box office, and it is expected to cross Rs 300 crore in a matter of a few days.
Jailer will become the second fastest Tamil film to reach Rs 300-mark, while the first position is also held by Rajinikanth with the film 2.o, which earned Rs 400 crores in four days.
Jailer was released on Thursday amid a huge fan frenzy and made an impressive collection of Rs 48.35 crore on its opening day. On Friday, the film earned Rs 25.75 crore, and on Saturday it earned Rs 35 crore, according to the trade aggregator Sacnilk. On Day 4, the film earned Rs 38 crore according to the website. The gross Indian collection of the film is estimated to be Rs 127 crore.
Rajinikanth-led action-thriller Jailer has crossed the Rs 600 crore mark on Sunday due to house full shows across theatres worldwide. The Thalaivar film achieved this feat on its eighteenth day of release. Rajinikanth’s latest film collected a total of Rs 450.80 crore in its first week and Rs 124.18 crore in its second week at the worldwide box office. Jailer went onto collect Rs 7.67 crore on the first day of week 3, Rs 6.03 crore on the second day of week 3, Rs 8.36 crore on the third day of week 3, and Rs 10.25 crore on the fourth day of week 3.
With this, the film’s total worldwide box office collection stands at Rs 607.29 crore as on Sunday. Jailer is the second Rajinikanth film to enter the Rs 600 crore club at the worldwide box office. Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer 2018 film 2.0 entered the club within 10 days of its release. 2.0 collected Rs 800 crore in its lifetime at the worldwide box office.
Rajinikanth’s last release, 2021’s Annaatthe, earned Rs 70.19 crore worldwide on its first day, and crossed Rs 112 crore in just two days. But it was a Diwali release. Jailer will face some competition from Bhola Shankar in theatres on Friday. The Chiranjeevi-starrer could dominate the Telugu speaking states which could affect Jailer’s business through the weekend.
