Lance Reddick, gained fame playing a police commander on the Baltimore crime drama “The Wire” and later in the “John Wick” movie franchise and the Amazon series “Bosch,” died on Friday. He was 60.

According to different sources he died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles.

Lance Reddick ( Lance Solomon Reddick ) was an American actor and musician.

Lance Reddick was best known for playing Cedric Daniels in The Wire (2002–2008), Phillip Broyles in Fringe (2008–2013), and Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch (2014–2020). In film, he was best known for starring as Charon in the John Wick franchise (2014–2023) and David Gentry in Angel Has Fallen (2019).

Lance Reddick was also known for portraying Detective Johnny Basil on Oz (1997–2003), Matthew Abaddon in Lost (2004–2010), and Albert Wesker in the Netflix series Resident Evil (2022). He provided the voice and likeness for video game characters Martin Hatch in Quantum Break, Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, and Commander Zavala in the Destiny franchise.

Wendell Pierce, Reddick’s co-star on The Wire paid tribute on Twitter. “A man of great strength and grace,” he wrote. “As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class.” John Wick — Chapter Four director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves said they dedicating the upcoming film to Reddick and were “deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss.”

He was best known for his role as straight-laced Lt. Cedric Daniels on the hit HBO series The Wire, where his character was agonizingly trapped in the messy politics of the Baltimore police department.

Lance Reddick was a Yale University drama school graduate.

The actor had been recently doing interviews for his role in John Wick: Chapter 4, released next week. Earlier this week, he chose not to attend the film’s New York premiere.

Reddick’s TV roles also included Oz, Lost, Bosch and a lead role in sci-fi drama Fringe. Before his death he also filmed the part of Zeus for the upcoming TV adaptation of Percy Jackson.

On the big screen, Reddick’s credits included White House Down, Sylvie’s Love, Brother to Brother and a role in the blockbusting John Wick franchise. As well as his posthumous performance in the fourth film, he is believed to have filmed a role for a spin-off, Ballerina, led by Ana de Armas. He will also be seen in the upcoming remake of White Men Can’t Jump.

Reddick was busy promoting John Wick: Chapter 4 and was scheduled to make an appearance on Kelly Clarkson’s show next week before his unfortunate demise. He was scheduled to attend the movie’s premiere on last Wednesday evening in New York, but he did not turn up.

The actor-musician last shared an update yesterday on a promotional post for Hard Rock Hotels and National Puppy Day on Twitter featuring him and his dogs.

Reddick was much sought-after as a voice actor for animations and video games. He also never lost his lifelong passion for music, and, in 2007, released an album of his compositions entitled Contemplations & Remembrances.

The fourth installment of the John Wick franchise is scheduled to be released on March 24, 2023.

Throughout his career, Reddick has contributed both his distinctive voice and his likeness to various video games. The first was 2009’s “50 Cent: Blood on the Sand,” in which he voiced the role of Derek Carter. Later, in 2014, he made his debut as Commander Zavala in “Destiny,” a role he has gone on to reprise in multiple other entries in the franchise. Reddick also contributed motion capture and full motion video footage to “Quantum Break,” in which he played Martin Hatch. Among his other video game credits are “Payday 2,” “John Wick Hex,” and “Horizon Zero Dawn” and its sequel “Horizon Forbidden West.”

In 2013, Lance Reddick had bought bought a home in Studio City for $1.315 million.

Built in 1939, the main house contains four bedrooms and four bathrooms, while the guesthouse has another full bathroom. There are two fireplaces, a wet bar in the family room, a sun room and 3,191 square feet of living space.

The nearly third-acre lot has a swimming pool, a spa and a built-in barbecue.
