World Teachers Day: World Teachers Day is an international day held annually on 5 October to celebrate the work of teachers. This is an annual event. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
World Teachers Day
It is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally. World Teachers Day is co-convened in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF and Education International (EI).
Inaugurated on 5 October 1994 by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, World Teachers Day is celebrated annually in over 100 countries.
The day allows students, parents and community members to show their appreciation for teachers and the positive impact they make on society.
To celebrate World Teachers Day, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Education International (EI) mount a campaign each year to help give the world better understanding of teachers and the role they play in the development of students and society.
The theme of World Teachers Day 2023 is “The teachers we need for the education we want”. Teachers are the heart of education and in many countries are leaving the profession they love, and fewer young people aspire to become one. UNESCO estimates that the world needs over 69 million new teachers by 2030, and the shortage only continues to grow
The day honours educator’s associations around the world. It was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) not only to show appreciation for teachers all over the world but also to assess the day and help teachers to improve. Its main aim is to prepare instructors and to guarantee that the requirements of future ages will keep being met by educators.
