Shocking : Film Director Pradeep Sarkar Dies, Movies, Cause of Death

Indian Movie Director Pradeep Sarkar, known for making films like Parineeta, Helicopter Eela and Mardaani, has passed away. He was 67. Pradeep Sarkar passed away at Lilabati Hospital, Mumbai early on 24th March’2023, Friday morning at 3.30 am. He was admitted to a hospital last night. He was not keeping well for a long time, he was on dialysis and had other health issues too. His funeral will be today at 4 pm in Santacruz, Mumbai, India.

Film Director Pradeep Sarkar Dies

As per reports, the director was on dialysis and his potassium levels had dropped drastically. He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

In Bollywood’s Film paternity, he was famous as “Dada”. Several Bollywood personalities took to social media platforms to condole the death of Sarkar.

Bollywood Superstar Ajay Devgn wrote “The news of Pradeep Sarkar’s demise, ‘Dada’ to some of us is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences . My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP Dada,”

Career

He started working in the movies with Rajkumar Hirani and was credited as the co-editor of Munna Bhai MBBS. His first directorial film was Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt stareer Parineeta. Sarkar then directed Laaga Chunari Mein Daag starring Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sensharma and Abhishek Bachchan. His directorials also include Lafangey Parindey, Mardaani and Helicopter Eela. Helicopter Eela, which starred Kajol, was his last film. He recently directed the ZEE5 web series Duranga.

In October 2022, Kangana Ranaut announced that she would be playing the lead role in his upcoming film Noti Binodini.

Personal Life & Career

Sarkar was born on 30th April’ 1955 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

Recipient of the prestigious Abby Award, Rapa Award and the National Film Award, Pradeep began his journey from Delhi College of Art graduating with a gold medal in 1979. After a 17-year stint in mainstream advertising as Creative Director – Art, he began his directorial journey as an acclaimed ad-film maker by unleashing his production house onto the advertising circles of Delhi.

Pradeep’s production house shot highly successful commercials; Tata Yellow Pages, ICICI Prudential, and Onida KY Thunder to name a few. The Aaj Tak TV commercials, shot in Black and White, apart from winning him the Rapa, also won him the Best Director of the Year Award at the Abby’s.

Pradeep was also one of the most sought-after and prolific music video directors in the industry. Shubha Mudgal’s ‘Ab Ke Saawan’, Euphoria’s ‘Dhoom Pichak Dhoom’ and ‘Maaeri’, Sultan Khan’s “Piya Basanti” and Bhupen Hazarika’s ‘Ganga’ went on to become benchmarks of excellence in visual appeal and storytelling.

Pradeep also won the “Best Debutant Director‟ in Screen Awards and the “Hottest Young Director‟ in Stardust Awards in 2006. The same year Parineeta also went on to win 5 Filmfare Awards.

Pradeep also had directed 4 WEB SERIES named “Coldd Lassi Aur Chicken Masala” in 2019, “Arranged Marriage” and “Forbidden Love” in 2020 and “Duranga” in 2022.

His wife is Panchali Sarkar is an entrepreneur. His son Ronit Sarkar is a playback singer. His daughter Raya Sarkar is an artist.

Bollywood star Rani Mukerji, who had collaborated with filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar on ”Laaga Chunari Mein Daag” and ”Mardaani”, said the director’s death this morning came as a shock as they had planned to meet soon.
