The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup – 2023  is the on going eighth edition of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament. It is currently being held in South Africa, from 10 to 26 February 2023. Australia are the defending champions. In the finals Australia Beat South Africa to own the trophy 6th times.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup – 2023 is the on going eighth edition of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament. It is currently being held in South Africa, from 10 to 26 February 2023. Australia are the defending champions.

In December 2020 the ICC confirmed the qualification process for the tournament. South Africa automatically qualified for the tournament as the hosts. They were joined by the seven highest ranked teams in the ICC Women’s T20I Rankings, as of 30 November 2021, who competed at the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 Know more about ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The remaining two teams were Ireland and Bangladesh, the finalists of the qualifying tournament.

There are in total 10 participating teams for the 26 matches at 3 venues. The squad of 15 players were selected by each teams before the tournament.

VENUES

ICC decided 3 venues in three cities.

These are as follows.

CAPE TOWN – Newlands Cricket Ground with 25000 capacity where 12 matches are being played.

GQEBERHA – St George’s Park with 19000 capacity where 5 matches are being played.

PAARI – Boland Park with 10000 capacity where 6 matches are being played.

For this world cup, in January 2023 ICC ( International Cricket Council ) appointed an all Women panel for the tournament with 3 match referees and   10 empires.

HISTORY

The women’s T20 World Cup was first played in 2009 in England, two years after the first men’s edition. The host emerged victorious in the inaugural edition, beating New Zealand in the final.

However, Australia has emerged as the dominant team in the tournament, reaching the final in the subsequent six editions. Australia has won five titles and is the defending champion, beating India in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2020.

West Indies is the only other team to have won the tournament when it trounced the Aussies in India in 2016.

NEXT T20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP

The 10th and next addition will be held in 2024 in BANGLADESH.

FINALS

The final will be played at Newlands Cricket Ground, CAPE TOWN on 26.02.2023, 6.30PM IST between AUSTRALIA and SOUTH AFRICA. Australia defeated India and South Africa defeated England in the semi finals. This is the first time in history that South Africa reached the finals.
